How to Switch a Candidate's Primary Job

In this article, you'll learn how to switch a locked candidate's primary job — whether you're the same recruiter handling both jobs or a different recruiter needs to request the switch from a colleague.

Updated over 2 months ago

Before You Start

A candidate can only be switched when their card is locked in one of the jobs they applied to. If you haven't read about how locking works yet, check out [What is Candidate Freeze & How It Works →]

Step 1: Find the Locked Candidate

Go to the job where the candidate's card is showing the 🔒 Locked badge.

Click on the candidate's card to open their profile.

Step 2: Open the Candidate Profile

Inside the candidate profile, you'll see a yellow warning banner at the top that reads:

"This candidate is locked because it's active in [Job Name] role."

On the right side of that banner, you'll see a Switch Job button. Click it.

Step 3: Confirm the Switch

A confirmation pop-up will appear showing you the details of the switch — which job the candidate is moving from and which job they are moving to.

📌 Important: This is an immediate action. Clicking Switch Job will instantly release the candidate from their current primary job and move them to this role. The candidate will be locked in the stage they were in at the time of the switch in the original job.

Two Scenarios — Same Recruiter vs. Different Recruiters

Scenario 1: You Are the Recruiter on Both Jobs

If you are assigned to both jobs, you'll see the confirmation pop-up directly as shown above. Simply click Switch Job to confirm and the switch happens immediately.

Scenario 2: Two Different Recruiters on Each Job

If a different recruiter is handling the other job, you won't be able to switch directly. Instead, clicking Switch Job will send a request to the recruiter managing the other job asking them to approve the switch.

📌 The other recruiter will receive a notification to review and approve the request. Until they do, the candidate remains locked.

What Happens After the Switch

Once the switch is confirmed:

  • The candidate becomes active in the new job starting from the stage they were in when locked

  • The candidate is locked in the original job at the stage where the switch happened

  • The pipeline in both jobs updates automatically
