How to Edit or Delete a Department in Recruitera

Learn how to edit or delete departments in Recruitera's company settings — keep your org structure accurate as your organization grows and changes.

Recruitera's department settings let Admins edit department names or remove departments that are no longer needed. Keeping your department list clean and accurate ensures job creation, requisition approvals, and reporting all reflect your current organizational structure. This is an Admin-only action in Recruitera.

How to edit a department in Recruitera

  1. Go to Settings → Company → Organization → Departments.

  2. Find the department you want to update. Use the search bar to filter by name if your list is long.

  3. Click the Actions menu (⋯) on the right of that row.

  4. Select Edit.

  5. Update the department name.

  6. Click Save.

How to delete a department in Recruitera

  1. Find the department in the table.

  2. Click the Actions menu (⋯) → select Delete.

  3. Confirm the deletion in the modal that appears.

💡 Before deleting a department, make sure no active jobs or open requisitions are assigned to it. Deleting a department removes it from Recruitera but does not retroactively update jobs already using it.

Recruitera supports search, sorting, and pagination on the Departments page to help you manage large organization structures efficiently:

  • Search — filters by department name and sub-department names in real time

  • Sort — A to Z or Z to A

  • Pagination — view 10, 25, or 50 rows per page

What happens to jobs assigned to a department I delete in Recruitera?

When you delete a department in Recruitera, it is removed from the system going forward. Jobs that were already created and assigned to that department retain the department name in their records — they are not automatically updated or broken. However, the deleted department will no longer appear as an option when creating new jobs or requisitions. Review active jobs before deleting any department.

Can I rename a department in Recruitera without affecting existing jobs?

Recruitera allows you to rename departments at any time from Settings → Company → Organization → Departments. When you rename a department, the new name applies immediately across all areas of the platform — including jobs and requisitions that were already using the old department name. This makes renaming safe and consistent without requiring manual updates to individual jobs.

Can I delete a sub-department without deleting the parent department in Recruitera?

Recruitera allows you to delete sub-departments independently from their parent department. Go to Settings → Company → Organization → Departments, find the parent department, and use the Actions menu on the specific sub-department tag to remove it. The parent department and any other sub-departments under it remain unaffected.
