Recruitera's disqualify reasons settings let Admins edit or remove existing disqualification reasons to keep the list accurate and aligned with your current hiring process. Outdated or duplicate reasons create inconsistent reporting data — so regular maintenance of this list is important. This is an Admin-only action in Recruitera.
Before you start
Required role: Admin only
Where to find it: Settings → Workflow → Disqualify Reasons
How to edit a disqualify reason in Recruitera
Go to Settings → Workflow → Disqualify Reasons.
Find the reason using the search bar or scroll the list.
Click the Actions menu (⋯) next to the reason.
Select Edit.
Update the reason name.
Click Save.
The updated reason name applies immediately. Any candidate previously disqualified with this reason will now show the updated label in their profile and in reports.
How to delete a disqualify reason in Recruitera
Find the reason in the list.
Click the Actions menu (⋯) → select Delete.
Confirm the deletion in the modal that appears.
💡 Deleting a disqualify reason removes it from the dropdown going forward. Candidates already disqualified with this reason will retain the label in their historical record — the deletion only prevents future use.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to past disqualifications if I delete a reason in Recruitera?
When you delete a disqualification reason in Recruitera, it is removed from the dropdown for future use. Candidates who were previously disqualified using that reason retain the reason label in their profile history — historical records are not changed. The deleted reason will no longer appear as a selectable option when disqualifying new candidates, and it will stop accumulating data in the Disqualification Report going forward.
Can I rename a disqualify reason in Recruitera without affecting reports?
Recruitera allows you to rename disqualification reasons at any time from Settings → Workflow → Disqualify Reasons. When you rename a reason, the new name applies to both the dropdown and to all past disqualification records that used that reason — including what appears in the Disqualification Report. This means renaming affects historical data too, so choose new names carefully to avoid confusion in existing reports.
How many disqualify reasons should I configure in Recruitera?
Recruitera supports as many disqualify reasons as your process requires, but the most effective setups use between 8 and 15 specific, non-overlapping reasons. Too few reasons (under 5) produce vague report data. Too many (over 20) make the dropdown slow to navigate and lead to inconsistent usage. Common categories include fit reasons (cultural, skill, experience), process reasons (no response, withdrew), and offer reasons (salary, role mismatch).
