Recruitera's screening question filter lets you narrow the pipeline by how candidates answered specific application form questions. You can filter by whether a candidate answered or skipped a question, and by the specific answer they gave — with AND or OR logic across multiple questions. This makes it possible to shortlist candidates based on their responses without reading every application manually.
Before you start
Available to: Admins, Recruiters, and Hiring Managers
Where to find it: Pipeline tab → Table view → Filter sidebar → Screening Questions
Prerequisite: The job must have an application form with screening questions configured. If no application form is attached, this filter section will be empty.
How to filter by screening question answer
Open the filter sidebar in Table view.
Expand the Screening Questions section.
Select a question from the list of all screening questions in the current job's application form.
Choose a filter condition:
Answered — shows candidates who gave any answer to this question
Not Answered — shows candidates who left this question blank
Specific answer — select a specific answer value to match (available for Multiple Choice and Yes/No questions)
The table updates instantly.
How to filter across multiple questions
Recruitera supports adding filters for multiple screening questions simultaneously. When you add more than one question filter, you can control the logic between them:
AND logic — candidates must match all selected question conditions (default behavior)
OR logic — candidates must match at least one of the selected question conditions
💡 Example: Filter by Q1 "Do you have a valid driving license?" = Yes AND Q2 "Years of experience" = "5+" to instantly surface candidates who meet both criteria without reading through every application.
Frequently asked questions
How do I filter candidates by their application form answers in Recruitera?
To filter by application form answers in Recruitera, go to the Pipeline tab, switch to Table view, open the filter sidebar, and expand the Screening Questions section. Select a question, then choose to filter by Answered, Not Answered, or a specific answer value. For Multiple Choice and Yes/No questions, Recruitera shows the available answer options for you to select. The table updates instantly to show matching candidates.
Can I filter by multiple screening questions at the same time in Recruitera?
Recruitera allows you to add filters for multiple screening questions simultaneously. Each question filter can be set independently with its own condition. You can control whether candidates must meet all conditions (AND) or at least one (OR). This lets you build multi-criteria shortlists — for example showing only candidates who answered Yes to a license question AND have 3+ years of experience in another question.
What happens if a question in the filter has a free-text answer in Recruitera?
For free-text screening questions, Recruitera's screening question filter supports Answered and Not Answered conditions — so you can surface candidates who filled in the question or left it blank. For keyword matching within free-text answers, use the Boolean search bar to search for specific words or phrases that would appear in those answers. The search bar works across application form content in addition to the structured screening question filter.
